Mrs. Gaston’s First Grade Class
About Mrs. Gaston
I graduated from the Ohio State University in 1986. I moved to Spain with my new husband that Fall and was able to teach Pre-school on the Navy base in Rota. We then moved to Pax River where I taught 1st grade at Father Andrew White for 2 years. Another move took me to the island of Guam where I was the Director of a daycare/preschool at the local Lutheran Church. My husband’s squadron was relocated to Whidbey Island Washington where I subbed for a many years before I was hired full-time to teach 4th grade. In between subbing and taking care of my two small children, I volunteered at my church on the Parish Council and was Chairperson of the St. Merrymaker church ministry group. Our mission was to head social events and fundraisers in support of our church. I was a Girl Scout leader for 5 years with a small group that met in my home. In 2002, my husband was relocated for the last time here in St. Mary’s County. I worked as a teacher’s aide in the Preschool class at Little Flower School for 2 years and was hired for a fulltime position as the First Grade Teacher at Father Andrew White School. I feel like I have come “full circle” and am back home in the exact same room where I started over 25 years ago!
My husband Jim and I celebrated our 30th anniversary this past summer. Our daughter Elizabeth and her husband Corey blessed us with our first grandchild, Paxton the day before our anniversary so it made the occasion extra special! Our son, Max attends college at CSM and is pursuing a drafting degree.
There is no other place that I would want to have as my “Home away from home.. As I continue on the path that God has laid out for me, I hope to spread God’s word to many more little ones. The First Grade world is an awesome place to be!
