2011/12 Music Class

Dear FAW parents,

I am thrilled to join the FAW staff as the music teacher. For those of you who don’t know me (yet!),I am originally from PA where I got my teaching degree in Elementary Education (K-8) and Education for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students. My husband and I moved to So. MD 14 years ago when I started teaching in Charles County Public Schools. We joined St. Aloysius church in 2001 and I promptly joined the music ministry! I am thrilled for the opportunity to share the gift of music with all of your children!

In music class, the number one rule is respect! Respect for each other, teachers, and the classroom is a requirement for a successful learning environment. The grades in music class remain the same as in years past:E,G,S,I,and U. Although homework will not be a frequent occurrence,it is expected to be completed and turned in on time when it is assigned.

The 3rd graders will learn to play recorders later on in the school year. Please look for more information regarding the recorders late fall/early winter. I know the 3rd graders are excited about it as it was already brought up to me in our first class together! ?

3rd-8th graders:Students in these upper grades should be prepared for music class by having a folder with clips to add papers throughout the year. Middle school students should have ~25 sheets of lined note-paper inserted in these folders. Students should bring them to every music class from here on out.

Chorus:Students may sign up for chorus in the music room. More information specific to chorus members will be forthcoming to those who sign up by September 9th. 4th and 5th grade chorus will meet on Wednesdays during their recess from 12:20-12:45. Middle school chorus is currently scheduled to meet on Wednesdays after school from 2:40-3:15,but this may change in the future. Third graders will have an opportunity to join the chorus after the Christmas break.
If you have a student who is musically inclined in any way and would like to contribute their talents and love of music in some way outside of the classroom, please let me know. If you are a person who is musically inclined and would like to share your talents and love of music in some way in our classroom, please let me know! I would love to have you join us!

Believe it or not,we are already thinking about the Christmas pageant. If you would like to help out in any way, please send me an email specifying in what capacity you are able to assist with this school-wide event. I will be looking for parents to help with props, costumes, stage direction/practices,etc. We won’t start working on this for several more weeks, but it will be helpful to start compiling a list of helpers now.

Please feel free to contact me at any time. I am available at the school on Wednesdays,Thursdays, and Fridays each week. I am really looking forward to a great year at FAW and your students!

Sincerely,

Jody Cacko
