Mrs. Leake, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, has lived in Southern Maryland for 10 years. She is a graduate of Converse College where she earned degrees in International Business and Spanish. During her time at Converse, she spent a semester studying Spanish in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Mrs. Leake credits her time as a missionary in Cuba for her love of the Latin culture and language.
Professionally, Mrs. Leake has spent the majority of her career in non-profit development and fundraising. She was a partner for more than 15 years in a technical assistance firm working with agencies in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Before joining the staff at Father Andrew White in 2014, Mrs. Leake taught Pre-K thru 3rd Grade Spanish at St. John’s Catholic School, 3rd thru 5th Grade Spanish for St. Mary’s County Public Schools FLES Program and was a language instructor for Executive Staff at Barnett Bank of Jacksonville.
Mrs. Leake is the mother of FAW students Alexandra (7th) and Catherine (4th). The family loves to spend their free time in Louisiana and Florida with family, visiting the beach, swimming, horseback riding and always squeezing in a trip or two to Disney!
Welcome to the Spanish Class page. I am looking forward to sharing this wonderful language with the students at Father Andrew White! Students in Pre-K thru 5th grade will have Spanish class one day per week. We will use in-class activities, educational videos, arts and crafts and music to learn the vocabulary and conversational phrases.
Students in 6th thru 8th grade will have Spanish class two days per week using the ¡Así se dice! textbook and workbook. Lessons will be supplemented with additional in-class activities, educational videos, and music.
It is my hope that our exploration of Spanish leads to an eagerness to learn more about the language as students prepare for high school and beyond.
